A 5-Step Checklist to Reopening Your Business

As businesses start to reopen throughout the country, it’s important to ensure that your brand has taken all the necessary steps to prepare. Reopening your business successfully during this time requires optimizing your local SEO and reputation management strategy to reach consumers and improve your online visibility.

To update your local business hours, log into your Google My Business acocunt at Google.com/business. Then select the location you would like to update.

1. Go to Info, then click Special Hours.

2. Click “Add new date” to choose the dates.

3. Add the special hours your business plans on being open or closed.

4. Click apply.

Google My Business recently announced they are temporarily disabling all reviews, review responses, and Q&A until further notice. This decision was made in an effort to accommodate the influx of listing changes and to protect the reputation of all local businesses during this stressful time.

Google My Business is now allowing businesses to set their locations as “Temporarily Closed” in the GMB dashboard.

To make your profile appear as temporarily closed on Google Maps and Search:

  1. On your computer, sign in to Google My Business.
  2. In the menu on the left, click Info.
  3. To the right, point to the section “Close this business on Google.”
  4. Click Mark as temporarily closed.

If you have multiple profiles, select the profile you want to change then follow steps 2 and 3 to mark your businesses as temporarily closed.

Stay in contact with your customers during COVID-19 through social media, local pages, and email. Now is a great time to get creative with your content, here are some ideas to get you started.

It’s not a good idea to constantly update your hours on Google My Business, Yelp, or another directory. If you feel you may need to keep changing your hours, update your business description to say “Due to COVID-19, please call to confirm our hours for the day”.

  1. Google is allowing restaurants to add “delivery available” or “takeout available” to your business name on Google My Business.
  2. Let your customers know of this change through social media posts and emails.
  3. Some communities are sharing lists of restuarants offering delivery via neighborhood or city organizations. Get in contact with your local leaders to find out how you can add your business to these lists.
